Review Myth is always a part of a nation's folklore and so it is with the United States. The writing of the U.S. Constitution, viewed some 200 years hence and in a bicentennial celebration, has lost some appreciation of accuracy according to Fresia. ne author's central theme may be viewed as either overstatement or at least overstretching a valid issue. He argues that "We live in an undemocratic system that is a major source of terror and repression both at home and around the world." Fresia's overall work is broken down into three parts with part one dealing essentially with the origins and original intentas interpreted by the author--of the framers. Relying heavily upon the ground-breakirig work of the great American historian, Charles Beard, the founding fathers were concerned primarily with the protection of property and associated rights of an upwardly mobile, wealthy strata of American society. Thus, the "people" were to be feared and so wfien the constitution was written, obstacles were created to eschew majoritarian democratic authority. Part two builds upon the thesis of elite governance, as established by the constitution and tries to show that what has emerged is a system that represses blacks and other minorities by successive governments of a right-wing orientation. Part three is a persuasive call to common people to take the country back in an attempt to introduce more true democracy. -- From Independent Publisher Product Description Reveals the true intent of our "Founding Fathers" who designed by the Constitution to protect their property and ensure that the poorer majority would have no real voice in political affairs.
