This is the most comprehensive istory of the Russian-Napoleonic wars which, according to the author was in fact the first world war. The author studies the motives of the Russian imperial house to get involved in the war, the complicate foreign relations on the eve and in the course of the war, the place of Russia in the anti-Napoleon coalitions from the loss of the battle of Austerlitz (December 2, 1805) to the conquest of Paris.
