The First Half of My Life can be summarized through the following sequence of major events; getting married, giving birth, being deserted and forced to struggle for survival. The protagonist, Zi Jun, experienced a smooth first half of her life, getting married upon graduation and becoming a full-time housewife spanning 13 years. However, at the age of 35, her husband was lured away into an affair by another woman. Without income to support family and children, Zi Jun's only option was to start over again, establishing a new life, career, and new relationships. Zi Jun's destiny was finally reborn. Yi Shu eloquantly explained this cycle of life as, "We lost something and also gained some. God is fair."
