One of the greatest emperors in Chinese history, Emperor Wu (civilian name Liu Che) expanded China's territory dramatically by uniting and bringing peace to several smaller, warring states. Breakthroughs in this era eventualy led to the foundation of the Great Silk Road.
During his reign (157 BC–87 BC) Liu Che consolidated China’s power under a strong central government founded on the Confucian virtues of integrity, benevolence, conscientiousness, consideration for others and correct behavior.
This book, based largely on the writings of China's ancient historian Sima Qian, summarizes the development of the Han Dynasty and the reign of Emperor Wu, including the ongoing efforts to make peace with the Mongols to the north. Maps indicate the locations of battles and other major events.
